With more people in the job market, it's more important than ever to sell yourself effectively to prospective employers. Impress them with your resume and boost your odds of being hired.
Use a computer, if possible, to prepare your resume. Include your name and contact information, the type of work you are seeking, your work experience, education, and personal information such as hobbies, where you were born, or any other relevant bit of information which may make you more suitable for the job you want.
Keep your resume current by revising and updating it before applying for each new position. Tailor it to each employer.
For example, if you are applying to a large company you may express interest in managerial, marketing representative or sales associate positions. But if you submit an application to a smaller firm with an opening for a marketing representative, list just that one type of job and increase your chance of looking like the perfect job candidate. You can express your interest in any new positions verbally should the marketing representative position be filled.
Keep your resume to one page, if at all possible. Remember your prospective employer is busy and probably doesn't have a lot of time to spend on each resume. Edit your resume until you have only the most appropriate information. Be sure to include your most closely related job experience and be positive about your abilities. This is your chance.
Here are more tips:
* Be sure your resume is neat, well organized and easy to understand. If you don't communicate effectively, your application can be buried or pitched.
